Custom Packaging with personalized variable data printing along with some careful hand fulfillment made for a very challenging, but impactful project for recently admitted students to the USC Viterbi School of Engineering.

Our friends and partners at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering Undergraduate Admission office approached us late in 2021 with an idea for a project.  They needed to make a highly-visible, impact-focused mailing with a gift inside.  They settled on a custom mug and asked us to design a mailing package to ship the mug to include a booklet for all newly admitted students.

With multiple iterations we landed on this truly unique, high-impact package.  Our team custom designed the box and insert to protect the ceramic mug during shipping while also making for a beautiful display case when open.  Additionally, the insert served a dual purpose of suspending an 8×10, variable data printed booklet above the mug to be the first item the student sees when the box is opened.

We love the unique design created and printed on raw corrugate cardboard.  The look and feel was meant to convey a sense of dynamic technology while also promoting an eco-responsible and sustainable lifestyle.   The Variable Data Printed Booklets were printed using a custom-color-corrected scan of the corrugate to give the impression it was all printed on the same material creating a visually stunning, and well thought out journey of design for the recipient.

To complete the process, our team worked diligently to hand-fulfill mugs, personalized booklets, and mailing labels for each of their 1300 recipients.  It was hard, detailed work, but its this kind of result that makes us love what we do!
